More than 10,000 young people, start-ups and professionals from business and public institutions who are interested in digital entrepreneurship are meeting on 8-9th of September in Vilnius (Lithuania) in the largest ICT and entrepreneurship event in the Baltic region: #SWITCH!, is organised by the Lithuanian MEP, ALDE group member Antanas Guoga.
Highlights to look out for include the European launch of flying drone waiters and presentations from visionaries working at the sharp end of the global digital industry (such as Facebook, Google, King, Swedbank, Allegro, Uber, techUK and others). They will be presenting their success stories one after another. You will also find robots being constructed, new business ideas emerging through the Adform Hackathon, and start-ups competing for investment opportunity at the INFOBALT #SWITCH! Startup Pitching Session. And, to top it off, there will be an ambitious attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the Largest Programming Lesson to help Lithuania make its name as a country of knowledge, youth involvement and great opportunities.
The initiator of #SWITCH!, MEP Antanas Guoga said, “#SWITCH! is dedicated to like-minded people who are interested in the digital future. The digital market brings unimaginable opportunities and challenges at the same time. I believe everyone can be more successful and competitive in a European digital single market. #SWITCH! connects European digital dimensions with local businesses and brings digital single market tools to Lithuania. In this way the digital single market becomes not only the concept of European Institutions, it delivers real business and real opportunities.”
Guoga added: “#SWITCH! is a huge event and one of its kind in the region. It brings together the public and private sector, young people and professionals, including an interactive technology fair and a hackathon. It’s a place where the technology world is alive and open for everyone.”
#SWITCH! features a Professional programme and a Youth programme. The Professionals’ programme will focus on smart business in smart states. The programme consists of keynote speeches and discussion with high-level digital business and public sector leaders, and result-oriented practical workshops for SME’s on how to adapt to the digital age, scale up, expand cross-border, and use ICT technologies and digital tools in their business. The topics of the speeches and workshops include: app economy, drone industry, block chain, e-commerce, cloud computing, cybersecurity, sharing economy, e-learning, women in tech, EFSI, digital advertising and others.
The Youth programme consists of inspirational entrepreneurship presentations, including an adform hackathon on e-learning, and a technology zone with interesting inventions and practical workshops. Attendees in the technology zone will have a chance to move objects with mind power, take a walk through virtual reality, construct a small robot and test drones. In addition they will be able to test 3D printers and scanners, sphere robots, play a Nasdaq real time virtual investment game, and test many more creative technological innovations. Participants will have the unique opportunity to embrace their virtual reality experience on the way to the event using Uber VR Cars!
On September 8th, #SWITCH! will conduct the first European launch of drone – waiters, brought from the Singapore by Infinium Robotics. On September 9th, all #SWITCH! participants will become part of the unique event – the attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest programming lesson. The same day there will be a special programme for start-ups – an INFOBALT #SWITCH! start-up pitching session.
#SWITCH! is an annual event on the European digital single market and entrepreneurship which aims to unite public officials, young entrepreneurs and youth from the region. Last year, 115 speakers travelled from 15 different countries, and, in total, there were over 6300 participants.
